Consumer Helpline Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Lines are closed on bank holidays. Calls from mobiles and landlines are free.

Need help applying for Universal Credit?

Our Help to Claim service can support you in the early stages of your Universal Credit claim, from the application, through to your first payment. Help to Claim is a dedicated service from Citizens Advice. It’s free, independent and confidential. Our trained advisers can help with things like how to gather evidence for your application or how to prepare for your work coach appointment.

Get Involved - Volunteering is Hugely Rewarding

Our volunteers benefit from their experience of working with us. Retired volunteers believe it keeps them mentally active and nine in ten unemployed volunteers say it helps them move into employment or education.

I started volunteering with Citizens Advice in winter 2021, looking to give back to my community and put my skills to good use after finishing work. The training for the Gateway Assessor role was structured, enjoyable, and a great way to learn something new.

I’ve loved being part of the team, helping clients, and working with Session Supervisors to find the right support for each person. I’ve even taken on an extra session each week and now enjoy helping new assessors find their feet.

I always feel valued here and proud to be part of such a special organisation.

Where to find us & Service Opening Times

Clients can present at the main Gateway reception where they will be triaged. Follow up appointments can be made if the matter cannot be resolved on the first visit.

Over the Christmas period we will be open for emergencies on the following dates:

Wednesday 24th December: 10am-12noon Monday 29th December: 10am-12noon Tuesday 30th December: 10am-12noon Wednesday 31st December: 10am-12noon

We will be open as normal from Friday 2nd January 2026
